The school's outside area is amazing and very well hidden to the general public!! Several years ago the PTFA funded the building of a market garden. This area includes its own polytunnel, garden shed and raised vegetable beds. This provides all the children with an opportunity to learn more about growing plants for food. Plants are also grown by some of the classes to link in with class topics. ll!
A very popular gardening club is run once a week teaching children how to care for a garden, produce fresh food and even how to sell plants to enable the garden to become self-supporting.
The children are encouraged to taste the fresh production they have grown.Children have produced their own recipe book for the school fair.
The gardening club has proved to be very popular with the children teaching staff and volunteers help to run the club every week.
We all enjoy working outdoors and learning about plants, foods and habitats. The children get experience being outdoors in all weathers and seasons.
Volunteers are needed to water the garden at weekends and during the holidays. We are holding a 'feed and weed' evening for families to join us in the grounds and garden areas of the school. We will reward you for your efforts with a free burger or hot dog ! We hope to see many join us to refresh some of these lovely areas of the grounds. If you are willing and able to help out in some way with our gardens and grounds, we would love to hear from you.
