Year 4
Welcome to Year 4
We have two classes in Year 4 - 4L (Ms Lucas) and 4J (Mrs Jennings).
Year 4 Learning
Please see the link for our curriculum overview to view an outline of the learning that will take place for Year 4 throughout this upcoming term. There will be multiple opportunities for children to immerse, engage, develop and apply their knowledge and skills throughout a whole host of focuses within the wider curriculum.
PE - Our PE day is on a Friday. On this day, children can come into school wearing their PE kit.
Forest School - This will also be on a Friday but please keep an eye on the Dojo page for specific dates.
Reading - We use Accelerated Reader. Children will select books from our library areas from within their reading range. Once they have completed a book, they will take a quiz to check their understanding of what they have read. They will then conference with their teacher before revisiting the library to choose their new book.
Oracy
Below are our Oracy Strands. When speaking and listening, we ensure that we use each of the small steps within the four strands appropriately, and have target areas. This term, our focus is around the Social and Emotional strand of Oracy.
We use Oracy all throughout the curriculum to share ideas and opinions, agree and disagree with our peers, feedback and listen and engage with others.
Some of the STEM sentences we are focusing on are:
I/we know that… because
Based on… idea… I think that/predict that/ in my opinion… because…
Building on … point… I think that…
I predict that… because….
Subsequently/in conclusion…
What do you think?
Can you tell me more?
Communication
As a school, we use Class Dojo to communicate and inform parents and carers about the learning experiences of our children, as well as important information and updates within the school. We also use Dojo as a reward system whereby children earn Dojo Points and at the end of each week, a child is awarded with the Dojo Champion certificate in our Achievement Assembly.
